Ted Bundy

Ted Bundy is a well-known American serial killer. Born in Vermont in 1946, Bundy killed at least twenty-six people between 1974 and early 1978. He was finally apprehended in February, 1978. Ted Bundy showed signs of a troubled personality as early as high school. He had difficulty relating to his peers, and was extremely socially awkward. He became obsessed with sex and violence during this period, and would seek out crime books that featured grisly descriptions and photographs. He became a kleptomaniac as well as a skilled criminal, forging documents and shoplifting on a regular basis.

Bundy attended University of Puget Sound and the University of Washington in Seattle. Ironically, his area of study was psychology. He attended law school after graduation. It was early 1974 when Bundy became fully unhinged. His killing spree began in Washington State, where he kidnapped and murdered a succession of young co-eds on college campuses. When investigations began, several of Bundy’s acquaintances reported him as a suspect, but law enforcement officials did not delve too deeply into questioning him. It was thought that such a clean-cut young law student was incapable of committing such atrocities. In autumn of 1974, Bundy moved to Utah and continued his habits of kidnapping, raping, and murdering young women.

He found them in high schools, college dorms, and parking lots. Finally, Bundy was arrested for a traffic violation in 1975. After being convicted for kidnapping, Bundy managed to escape before standing trial for murder. He was recaptured six days later. In 1977 he escaped from jail again, this time making it all the way to Florida. After committing another series of murders, he was apprehended by Florida police when it was discovered that he was driving a stolen vehicle. Over the course of the trial, Bundy admitted to over 30 murders, although some place the actual total closer to 100. He was sentenced to death in 1980 for the murder of a junior high school girl, after the admission of much damning evidence. He was executed via electric chair by the State of Florida on January 24, 1989.
